The proverb ' Baro mase tero parban ' proves that Bengales are found of festivals. Bengali year begins with 'Navabarsha' on 25 th Baisak we observe Rabindra Jayanti. The independence day, the republic day, the birth days of Gandhiji, Nataji are also observed as national festivals. In autumn we observe our greatest festival Durga Puja. It is an occasion of putting on new dresses, joy and merriment. Then comes Laxmi puja . It is held in every home for wealth. Next we get kali puja and Dewali. Students worship Saraswati Puja . We also observe Rathyatra , Holi, Nabanna, Vatridwitiya, Rakhi purnima etc. The Muslims observe the Id Maharam, etc. The Christians observe X-Mas, Good Friday etc. On such occasions people mix together with the sprit of brother hood. Thus festivals destroy separation , give us joy and pleases our mind above all.
